The Identity and the Self

When we think of the identity, we usually recognize a self-image that includes the reference to who we are in relationship to some area of our life, such as relationships, career, money and health.  For example, if I am married, I form an image of myself as having a marriage status, such as a “marriage-I”.  Secondly, this is often put into a positive or negative reference, such as “I am having a good marriage” or a “good-marriage-I” or a “bad marriage-I”.  Read the rest of this entry

The Breath and Stress

Much of our experience of stress or on the other hand, relaxation and peace is modulated through the way we breath.  The different variables to our breathing function are frequency or rate per minute and area of the lungs in which we breath.  By regulating our breath, we can affect these two variables, because stress is reduced by breathing deeply and in the right are in the lungs. Modern Dharma

Freedom from Addiction and Compulsion

Although there are specific addictions that warrant detox and isolated withdrawal, such as drug and alcohol addiction, most of our common forms are internal and psychological.  Examples of these common forms are overeating, shopping, gambling and sex/romance.  These types do not need any specific detox, but can be eliminated through psychological means and training.
