In order to train the mind for contemplation, which is the real spiritual training, it is necessary to regulate and eventually transform many our main structures of living: identity, thought, emotion, attention, volition and instinct.Normally, spiritual techniques are given which transform many of this, like Hatha Yoga for instinct and attention and reading of the Bible, for emotion and thought. However, all of these structures or “faculties” can be transformed without resorting to any classical techniques which are primarily done in isolation from secular culture.
